Hands on History

Our Mission:

Educate, Inspire, and Fun!

Yes! Our mission is to bring history to the classroom. We visit classrooms to allow children to experience not only seeing, but touching and holding a vast array of pre-historic and historical artifacts. We have several programs that start from over 200 million years ago to 150 years ago. Any presentation can be specifically geared towards a particular period of time in history, a civilization, a broad coverage, or most any specific program requested.

I have been enamored with history since I was a young boy. My first experience of finding artifacts was on my grandfather’s farm in Culpeper, Virginia. After plowing the fields, it was time to sift thru dirt and see what I could find. It was amazing finding my first arrowhead. That experience never left me. I have loved reading history, watching documentaries, treasure hunting (metal-detecting), traveling to historica locations and visiting museums with my children. However, there is nothing I believe that ever compares to me holding something in my hand.

Feel history, enjoy it, and hopefully inspire. We hope you reach out to us and let us come and have fun with the classroom! Thank you, Andy Ruffner

Please use the contact information at the bottom of any page to reach out to us and again, please feel free to ask about any particular type of presentation you are interested in. We’re constantly adding material to our collection, so it keeps getting better and better (recently Wooly Mammoth hair and a Sabre Tooth Tiger skull with teeth).
